Carruthers and Jackson Launches Eighth Annual Summer School for Data Leaders

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, UK – 5th March, 2025Carruthers and Jackson, the global leader in data consultancy, has launched its eighth annual Chief Data Officer (CDO) Summer School. This year, the programme will cover emerging data challenges, such as AI, ethics, and the technologies and structures businesses need to get the most out of their data.

Since its inception in 2018, over 1,500 data leaders from around the globe have graduated from Summer School. The 10-week programme consists of virtual seminars given by Carruthers and Jackson’s CEO, Caroline Carruthers, and Co-Founder, Peter Jackson, as well as expert guest speakers, that provide hands-on instruction for the next generation of data leaders.

Caroline Carruthers, CEO at Carruthers and Jackson, said, “As businesses realise the power of data to transform their organisations and drive value, data leaders must understand how to successfully guide the data transformation journey. Through practical real-life examples, we intend to arm aspiring CDOs with the skills to make effective data-driven decisions and become even more influential within their organisations.”

Peter Jackson, Co-Founder at Carruthers and Jackson, said, “AI is ushering in an outstanding pace of change and heightening the value of data while opening it up to more users than ever before. In this year’s Summer School, we hope to equip our students with the tools they need to manage this phenomenon and unlock operational benefits by using AI and data as a competitive advantage.”

The Summer School curriculum is based on Caroline and Peter’s best-selling books The Chief Data Officer’s Playbook, Data Driven Business Transformation, and Halo Data. This year’s curriculum covers pressing issues facing data leaders in 2025, guided by insights gathered in the latest Carruthers and Jackson Data Maturity Index. The report found that over 50% of organisations have increased their use of AI in the past year, but almost three in five reported that most of their employees are not data literate. The growth in AI adoption represents a paradigm shift in data management and a transformative moment for businesses, which data leaders must be prepared for.

“Summer School was an exceptional experience, offering a well-structured and engaging approach to advancing data leadership,” explained Tina Salvage, Data Management Lead at Bupa. “One of the standout aspects was the quality of discussions, both within the sessions and in the networking opportunities. The sessions went beyond theory, providing real-world examples and frameworks that could be directly applied to building more effective data capabilities. The emphasis on collaboration and shared learning reinforced the idea that strong data leadership is not just about individual expertise, but about fostering the right culture and approach across an organisation.”

Tina Ved, Lead Valuation Analyst at Schroders, said, “Summer School was an excellent experience. As part of the Schroders Data Team managing the Valuations and Securities Data for Wealth, the course gave me valuable insights into data strategy, governance, and the importance of the first 100 days in a new role. The knowledge I gained has given me a strong foundation and greater confidence, deepened my understanding of data governance, and helped me tackle complex challenges with a more strategic mindset.”

Summer School will run on Thursdays at 4pm GMT from 26th June to 28th August 2025. Applications are open now and close on 30th May 2025.
